About Stiletto

Posted by empress at 01:29 AM on October 1, 2003 in ramblings as a stickied post.

This is a place for my random thoughts. Most probably on my (incredibly boring) life. Randomness rocks. Anyway, I go by the name of empress (for more info check my profile). You can add me if you want - let me know and I'll add you back!

So, uhh yeah... enjoy the randomness! There's enough for everyone!

How To Disappear

Posted by empress at 06:07 PM on January 11, 2004.

Oops.
Sorry for disappearing for erm... 2 months.
Yes, I am still alive (much to the disappointment of many, I'm sure ).

Anyway, I hadn't posted for ages because a) in November I had the TEE (ie. something like the end of year 12 exam which also plays a huge part in determining whether you get into university) and b) for the whole of December I was in Hong Kong on holiday.

Both of which I will write about later, once I revamp this journal / blog / writing thing. Hopefully that will happen soon. Um.. within one month I predict (!). I still have to look for a part time job, clean and rearrange my room and download lots of V6 stuff (hahaha).

More explained later. My inspiration has left me for the time being. Someone tell it to hurry up and come back.

Edit: Oh yeah, I changed my username. It's empress now.

Search, Daily Double + 5 Min Story

Posted by empress at 01:25 AM on November 3, 2003.

Let's see... it's 1.10am. I have an exam on Tuesday, and another one the following morning. And what am I doing? Not studying, that's for sure. Damn me and my bad habits.

So I'll do another Daily Double instead.

1. How many clocks do you have in your house?
I don't know. Quite a few... probably at least 5 me thinks.

2. What kind of programs do you have on your computer?
Ones that I didn't pay for ! Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Illustrator... to name a few. I'm bad.

And new addition to the right - the search box! Please please please do a search and click on one of the search results! You can look for anything! Rainbows, cats, cauliflowers, cyclops... anything! Just remember to click on one of the results. You'll be helping me out a lot!

Wow... I never knew there were so many memes. Wow this blog might start turning into a meme blog . I think I'll do a 5ive Minute Story. Each week is a word and each person writes for fives minutes on that word.

"Organic"

Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the organic vegetable. I remember reading today in the paper that organic vegetables aren't actually that great for the environment. Well, they're useful if they're actually grown close to you, but if they were flown half way across the world for your culinary pleasure, then they aren't exactly saving the ozone layer - they end up using more energy than they save. But when people buy organic vegetables, are they really caring about saving the earth? Don't most people buy it because they're afraid the pesticides, OTAs, FTDs, SPRs, ACTs, QTLs and whatnots will damage their brains and give them deformed offspring? But hey, with the amount of fat and sugar that's consumed daily by the average person, I'm think pesticides should be the least of they're worries.

5 minutes up. Random, yes?

ETA: Added another search box. Please please please do a search using one or both the boxes!

Getting Paid + Daily Double

Posted by empress at 01:32 PM on November 1, 2003.

Okay, I must take a moment to plug some (great) sites for makiing money. Seriously, if you have paypal, stormpay or e-gold, you should join.

1. Mec Co Op Paidmail.
This is like the best program ever. I've already been paid $16.00 (through Paypal) by them and this is definitely my fave program. They send you emails with links, and all you have to do is click on them. How simple is that? You can also make more money by using the autosurf, where you click on the link to open a new window and it will automatically surf to sites for you.

2. One Cent Mail
Another great program which has also paid me through paypal. Sends emails, has paid2click and paid2signup pages and an autosurf feature.

3. Get Rich By Email
Ah too many good programs. Has paid me twice and is definitely another fantastic program. Sends email and paid2click and paid2signup pages.

4. Emails For Money
They've recently designed their page and are looking great! This program has also paid me, and they send emails, and have autosurf and paid2click features.

That's only a selection of them - more on the left hand side of this page.

On another topic, I was going to do the Friday Five, but it's all about Halloween and we don't really celebrate here in Australia, so I'm going to do the Daily Double instead.

1. Is it cold at where you live?
Not really. Well if you compare it to other cities in Australia, it's probably not as cold. I think it's 'cos we're on the coast? I don't know, I can't remember much of Geography anymore, considering the last time I did any was in Year 10.

2. How much candy do you eat a day?
Haha... well I've recently cut down to almost no candy a day. Oo I'm good. Not. Let's just say the odd piece of chocolate (or more than just an odd piece) here and there .

Well, off to study *cough*yeahright*cough*.

End of Year 12

Posted by empress at 06:53 PM on October 29, 2003.

Wow. I've finally made it. I finished my entire school life yesterday. You'd think it would be a joyous "woohoo" type situation, but it was actually quite sad. Not because of the work (as if I'd miss that ) but because I will probably never see half my yeargroup again. Probably more than half actually.

When you've spent half your life at school, it will certainly be different not having to get up early or wear a uniform. Of course, I still have the TEE to go (final exams start next week) - but on the 12th of November at exactly 5.00pm I will have finished my last exam and officially finished everything to do with school! And I'll be out into the big wide world . Ahh... independence.

Anyhoo.. I think I should actually go study for these exams (unlike the mocks ^^; ).

Friday Five + HK movies

Posted by empress at 08:13 PM on October 18, 2003.

Yep... here's the Friday Five... on Saturday... again.

1. Name five things in your refrigerator.
Yakult - mmm.. Yakult . Why are the bottles here smaller than in HK?
Jello - I love Jello. Remember the Aeroplane Jelly ad (in Oz)? "I love areoplane jelly... aeroplane jelly for meee."
Red Bean Soup - It's not really a soup; I don't know the English name for it. The ping yum for it in Cantonese is hong dao sar.
Coca Cola - Meh. Which is better, Coke or Pepsi?
Lemon slices - To put in my coke. Mmm... lemon coke.

2. Name five things in your freezer.
Frozen cheesecake. Tropical me thinks.
Ice cream.
Ice cubes.
Mince.
Frozen peas.

3. Name five things under your kitchen sink.
Haha. I don't usually look under my sink.
Rubber gloves.
Detergent.
Paper towels.
Plastic bags.
Sponges.

4. Name five things around your computer.
The area under my comp is disaster.
Pens.
Those little tags from the McDonalds SMS comp. Yes I'm a cheapskate so I'm using the site to send in the codes instead of SMSing them. Hahaha .
Photos that I was scanning.
Info Sys notes for my assignment that I'm supposed to be finishing now.
CD-ROMs.

5. Name five things in your medicine cabinet.
I don't think we have a medicine cabinet. It just seems to be scattered in different places either in the kitchen or bathroom.
Panadol.
Bandaids.
Dettol.
Bandages.
Cough syrup.

On another topic... my exams are finished !! Well.. not really. Only my mocks. And then I have the TEE in a few weeks. German oral on Saturday. But....

MOCK exams finished!! Yay! My friend had a sleepover and e stayed up watching Hong Kong movies. Ahh let's see... Sixty Million Dollar Man (starring Stephen Chow). Possibly the most random silliest movie but extremely funny. Pointless and plotless but still good.

Then Needing You. Sappy romantic comedy (aww) starring Andy Lau and Sammi Cheng. Sweet. Except I still don't get the Roger guy proposing to Sammi when she said that she likes someone else. What the? I really like Sammi's red top with the arm warmers when she dumped her boyfriend. I want I want hehehe.

Finally, Frugal Game. Only know the English names (Eason Chan and Miriam Yeung) of some of the actors. I was getting kind of tired but this is an okay comedy I guess, where two families compete to see who can spend the least money for a week living in a specially designed house. Although I don't get how Miriam and Eason like each other all of a sudden. I like Miriam playing the runaway other though.

Friday Five - Sport, then Exams

Posted by empress at 10:51 PM on October 11, 2003.

Oops. Forgot to do the Friday Five yesterday so here it is... on Saturday. Heh.

1. Do you watch sports? If so, which ones?
Umm... sometimes if I'm really bored. I'll just say this now, I'm not much of a sport person. I watch footy sometimes (AFL for those not in Oz ) and soccer, tennis, and sometimes basketball. I really cannot watch cricket though. I just don't get it. It really seems quite... uninteresting? All those scandals though ie. Shane Warne

2. What/who are your favorite sports teams and/or favorite athletes?
Fave sports team - Eagles! That's AFL again.
And fave athlete... Andy Roddick. Glad he won the US Open.

3. Are there any sports you hate?
Oops. Should have put cricket here. And athletics. Well, I only hate it when I have to do it. Okay, maybe 'cos I suck at it

4. Have you ever been to a sports event?
Yep, basketball games. And that's about it haha. I think I should go to a footy game.

5. Do/did you play any sports (in school or other)? How long did you play?
Let's see... I used to play volleyball until year 10, and this year I did badminton (haha) and Golf! But that was for recreation. I wanted to do pot black (pool) but there wasn't anymore room so I had to do golf instead. I think I like putting. Easy is good. And that's about it. Well I finish school in about 3 weeks anyway so... yeah. I can't wait

Speaking of finishing school, I have to get through exams first. Right now I have mock exams, which is on the whole years' work (and I really should be studying right now) and after that I have the TEE. I've already had my Chemistry and English Literature exam. I really hope I did okay in them.

You know, I wasn't going to cram. I had a whole study plan and I was going to force myself to follow it. Well, that never happened. I started studying for Chem 2 days before, and Lit was the night before. Yes, I'm bad. Very very bad. And I have worked it out. I can study for my Physics exam tomorrow (which is on Monday, plus my German aural and writing exam), and I have one day, Tuesday, to revise the whole year of Applicable Mathematics. Then Wednesday afternoon + night to study for Information Systems.

I'm screwed, aren't I?

Why English is so Difficult!

Posted by empress at 03:20 PM on October 7, 2003.

Got this in my email today - why English is so difficult. If you grew up learning English it doesn't seem that hard, but English is one of the hardest languages to learn as a second language. Personally, I think Chinese, or any language that has a different set of characters for reading, would be pretty hard to learn as a second language too.

I'm learning German and it's not too bad, maybe because at least it uses the same letters as English. One good thing is that English doesn't assign genders to all nouns. Why exactly do inanimate objects have genders anyway (such as in German, French etc.)?
